Mai Tai is one of the most famous tiki drinks in the world. Composed of rum, curacao orange, freshly squeezed lime juice and orgeat (an almond syrup with nuances), it has won over cocktail lovers and Tiki fans for decades. One of my favorite things to do on a tropical vacation (or, really, any other) is to sit on a lounger next to a resort pool (preferably with an ocean view) and order cocktails while reading a good book. A classic Mai Tai is a sour and strong cocktail, with an outstanding rum flavor and a little orange and lime flavor on the back.
I will explain not only what this drink contains, but also how to vary my cocktail to create your own Mai Tai recipe, depending on your tastes or the alcohol you have on hand. Golden rum and light rum go into the cocktail mix and dark rum floats on top (that's the dark brown you see in the photos). Mai Tai is a rum-based cocktail that is associated with tiki-themed restaurants, Polynesian culture and Hawaii.
